DeVry Image Library Help and Instructions
Welcome to the new Image Library where you'll find photos for use in printed and electronic medium. A new 'engine' is powering the database and is intended to make browsing the library and downloading images easier.
All images have been saved as high-res images (300 dpi, or print quality). If you need higher resolution for larger output, please contact Andrea Passas.
This help document will provide information on how to browse assets, search assets, download assets, and provide important clarity on the file naming convention. Any questions about use of this service can be directed toward Andrea Passas at DeVry OBT.
Browse Assets
User can browse assets by clicking on a category to reveal subcategories or assets within that category.
Search Assets
Enter search phrase into the Search box in the top left corner. Limit search by selecting which main category in which to perform the search. This search will search filenames - see file naming convention below. Since the new naming convention provides information about each asset within the filename itself, a user can choose to search on a partial filename. For instance, user could search on "U-L2", "GFE" or "u-l2gfe", etc. to find this file: U-L2GFE-CR.jpg (note: search is case insensitive)
Download Assets
In thumbnail view, user can click the thumbnail to reveal a larger preview of the file. User can click the "Save File" button beneath the asset to download the zipped file immediately. Use this option if only looking for 1 or 2 images. Click the "Lightbox" button to add assets to the Lightbox if you are looking to download 2 or more images. Click the Lightbox icon in right menu bar to go to the Lightbox to download all assets in the Lightbox together. Images will be automatically zipped and downloaded or saved.
File Naming Convention
The file naming system has been created to allow anyone who utilizes DeVry scanned photography to quickly locate any shot they need without having to open and view a multitude of assets. Understanding the system will save substantial time in locating the correct photography for your needs. This naming convention replaces the less standardized keywords meta data.
Using the Naming System
The names of the photos are made up of codes that represent the different attributes of the photo. The codes are as follows:
Academic Level:
Image Type:
Scene Number:
Model Number:
Model Gender:
Model Ethnicity:
Image Color:
Image Size:
Use of Hyphens in Photo Names
Hyphens have been used in strategic places in the name to help with readability and for quick sorting. The first hyphen separates the Undergraduate/Graduate from the code for quick reference if the image may be used for DeVry undergraduate or Keller graduate pieces. The information between the hyphens describes the photo. The second hyphen separates out the scan info at the end of the code.
Sample of a Photo Naming Code:
U-L2GFE-CR
This sample would be a photo for our Undergraduate program. It is a Lifestyle Image coded to scene 2 on the scene directory. It involves a group of females that are ethnically diverse. The scan is in color and is at 400%.
How to Code Non-Model Shots:
Shots that do not include models do not use all coding categories. N indicates No Models and therefore do not include codes for Model Sex or Model Ethnicity.
Sample of a Non-Model Background Code:
U-X6N-CL
This sample would be a photo for our Undergraduate program. It is a Background Image coded to scene 6 on the scene directory. There are no models. The scan is in color and is at 800%.
Old Images
Numerous images exist within this photo library that are not part of the New Campaign initiative. They may be appropriate in certain instances, however. These image names have an additional hyphen followed by an "O" (which stands for "Old") and a number. In the below example, the "-O21" indicates this is an old image.
U-L2GFE-CR-O21
Other Images
Images within the "Building" and "Portraits" categories have not been renamed according to the new naming conventions.
